Whether you are new to almond pollination with a few hundred hives or are an industry veteran with thousands of hives, we are ready to help! We've placed tens of thousands of hives in almonds over the past 20 years and take great pride in the quality of our work and our relationships with beekeepers & growers. Unlike many brokers, we are commercial beekeepers ourselves. We operate thousands of hives in our migratory commercial beekeeping business, along with our honey packing, bee selling & supplies businesses. See more about us here!

We're different from everyone else...

Pre California hive inspection

We've been keeping bees commercially for over 20 years. Over those 20 years of commercial beekeeping, we have also worked with a lot of brokers, and we are brokers ourselves. There is nothing quite so expensive or problematic as bees showing up in CA and our expectations don't align between what we need & what was supplied. This is expensive for you, the beekeeper, if the bees have to be shipped back. We want to work together before the expensive step of gathering, cleaning, and shipping your hives to CA occurs. We'll fly to you, at our expense, 1-2 months before placement and inspect a random 10%+ of hives with you, to ensure we are all on the same page when it comes to expectations. This also helps assure our growers ahead of time that they are getting quality bees and helps prevent problems for everyone ahead of time.

Full service- unloading, spreading & reloading

We offer full service brokering. All you have to do is send us your bees, and we'll take care of the rest. Our experienced commercial beekeeping crews unload and spread your hives into the orchard on the same night when possible. We are careful to move bees only at night, or when temperatures/conditions prevent bee flight. We reload your hives onto trucks, and send them back to you as quickly as possible. Our crews are highly experienced beekeepers, and we use only the latest, newest forklifts & trucks. If any of your equipment is damaged as a result of our handling, we'll reimburse you at market rates. We care about your, and your bee's success, and want you to work with us again next year! We'll update you when your bees arrive, send pictures once they arrive, update you throughout the bloom & when they are re-loaded. We welcome you to come out to CA and be a part of any portion of the process.

Optional feeding, treating, strength & weight checks & more

As commercial beekeepers who've sent our bees to brokers in the past, we understand it can be a bit nerve wracking to send your bees to someone else to manage for a few months. That's why we work hard to be completely transparent, and give you all the information possible. We provide you with a detailed location, & maps for where all of your hives are placed in CA. Plus, we'll stay in touch during the bloom to update you on inspection reports, projected release dates & more. Using the maps and locations, you are always welcome to fly to CA and check on your hives at any time.

Detailed maps, info packets & bloom updates

We offer a referral commission to all growers how refer us to other growers. When we sign up a new grower who let us know they were referred by you, we'll give you $1 for every hive they rent the first year! You don't have to be a grower, or a customer of DC to get the commission!

Early, deferred, or firm payments

Beekeeping is expensive and you invest a tremendous amount getting your bees ready for California. Some beekeepers also work to balance out cash flow for an ideal tax advantage. Others just want to know exactly when they are getting paid. We've created a program that fits each scenario. Whether you want to be paid as early as December 15th, or want to defer your payment to the next year, we've got you covered.

Hive theft insurance

We've all had hives stolen while pollinating almonds. It's incredibly frustrating, yet there is very little we can do to prevent it. Plus, there are virtually no insurances available at a reasonable rate. We've taken another industry first step, and offer insurance for hives we place for $5 per hive. We'll reimburse you at $200 per double deep hive. We also got the extra mile and apply gps trackers to all hives at random.

Grading & sorting services

To save labor costs, we are willing to sort and grade your bees once they arrive in CA. This is very helpful to beekeepers who are sending bees out of sheds, or don't have the labor available to pre-sort and grade. For $5 per hive, we will unload your bees in a holding yard, grade & sort them, and place them in the orchard. Any dead hives we will send back to you, and any hives under the contracted strength, we can combine to make hive of sufficient strength, or try to find a grower who is looking for weaker hives.

Customer Referral Bonus

We offer a referral commission to all beekeepers who refer us to almond growers or other beekeepers. When we sign up a new grower or beekeeper who let us know they were referred by you, we'll give you $3 for every hive they rent or provide the first year! You don't have to be a beekeeper, or a customer of DC to get the commission!
